Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC) is set to host this year's National Para Athletics trials at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium from Friday, 30 to Saturday, 31 January.

The event will be held at the newly refurbished stadium, marking a historic moment as the "County of Champions" welcomes the nation's elite para athletes.

This two-day event serves as the primary selection ground for the national squad that will represent Team Kenya in a series of high-stakes events, including the 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix circuit slated for Friday, 6 to Saturday, 14 February, with stops in Rabat and Tunis, regional championships, and upcoming International Paralympic Committee (IPC) sanctioned events.

In a bid to unearth raw talent from every corner of the country, the organisers have extended a formal invitation to a broad spectrum of participants. This inclusive approach aims to strengthen Kenya's pipeline for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The invitation is open to educational institutions, including primary and secondary special schools, colleges, and universities, registered sports clubs and community-based para-sports groups, as well as county-sponsored para athletes and independent individuals.

"This is a golden opportunity for our athletes to prove their mettle on a national stage. We are not just looking for seasoned veterans, but for the next generation of talent currently in our schools and colleges," a statement from the Local Organising Committee read.

The trials will feature a comprehensive range of track and field disciplines. A critical component of the event will be the National Classification exercise. This process ensures that athletes are grouped fairly according to the impact of their impairment on sports performance, following IPC international standards.

The County Government of Siaya has committed to providing world-class logistics, security, and accessibility features to ensure a seamless experience for all competitors and spectators.

All interested teams and individual athletes are encouraged to begin their registration through their respective county sports offices or directly via the KNPC portal.
