Leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet has extended their sponsorship deal for this year’s Chemususu Dam Half Marathon in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County to the tune of Ksh3.5 million.
Announcing the sponsorship, Mozzart Bet Country Manager Sasa Krneta revealed that Ksh2.5 million will fund the title sponsorship, while Ksh1 million will cover merchandise for the race that is set for Saturday 16 November.
This is the third year Mozzart Bet is sponsoring the marathon, which carries the theme "Run to Conserve."
Each year, Mozzart has increased its sponsorship, with last year’s event receiving Ksh2.5 million, up from Ksh2 million in 2022.
Now in its ninth edition, the Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, inaugurated in 2014, is expected to attract over 3,000 athletes from across Kenya and beyond, all vying for the top prize.
This year’s event will feature four races, including the main 21km half marathon, a 10km race for elite athletes, a corporate race, and a veterans’ category for participants over 50.
Krneta emphasized Mozzart Bet’s dedication to supporting sports in Kenya: “Mozzart Bet Kenya has a strong commitment to backing the local sports community. We proudly sponsor the National Volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, the Mozzart Bet FKF Cup, and continental debutants Kakamega Homeboyz FC.
For four years, we’ve supported the 10-kilometer Rediscover Nandi Race in Kapsabet, which has led to the discovery of new talent and the planting of over 30,000 trees to help conserve the environment.
“This year, we are honoured to be the Title Sponsor of the 21 km Mozzart Bet Chemususu Dam Half Marathon for the second consecutive year. We have committed Ksh2.5 million to ensure a successful event and an additional Ksh1 million for branding and merchandise.
Besides sports, our mission includes conserving the Chemususu ecosystem through tree planting and other environmental activities.”
Chemususu Half Marathon Patron Rolex Sirmah highlighted that this year’s marathon is unique, as they have secured investors willing to expand the water conservation project to the upper region.
Race Director Matthew Birir confirmed that this year’s top winners will receive Ksh250,000 in prize money, with runners-up awarded Ksh150,000, and third-place finishers receiving Ksh100,000.
The top ten athletes will be awarded, with the last place receiving Ksh10,000.
As with previous editions, funds raised will support the establishment of a standard training facility for athletes, tree-planting efforts, and providing medical cover for the elderly, a pressing concern due to the region’s cold climate.
Additionally, the event will donate sanitary pads to support the local community surrounding the dam.
