Kenyan javelin star Julius Yego reminded everyone of his abilities with a sensational season-best throw of 85.97 m to qualify for the Paris Olympics final at the Stade de France on Tuesday morning.

The 2016 silver medalist, in his trademark style, dived onto the track while making the throw and was soon looking back at his coach with his hands in the air after realizing that he had surpassed the target.

The throw, which bettered his season-best of 81.74 at the African Games in March, is his second-best in close to five years, immediately following his 2019 African Games attempt of 87.73 in Rabat, Morocco.
Yego, through to the Olympic Games through the world rankings, started off his participation in Paris with a throw of 78.84 m before improving to 80.76 m on his second attempt.
At the end of the session, he was ranked second behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who qualified with a first-round throw of 87.76 m.
Other automatic qualifiers in Group A were Jakub Vadlejch and Finnish Toni Keranen.
