The Jamaican posted 10.67 seconds in last year's 100m race in Nairobi
Just a few hours after being ruled out of her highly anticipated participation in the fourth edition of the Kip Keino Classic slated for Saturday 13 April at the Kasarani Stadium, reigning World Champion over 100m Shelly Anne Fraser Pryce has finally broken the ice and made public the Friday morning reports to her followers on social media.
“Due to discomfort during my warmup, I am deeply disappointed that I will not be competing at the Kip Keino Classic and have departed Kenya to seek treatment,” the five time world 100 meters champion posted on her official Facebook account on Friday afternoon.
As initially reported exclusively by Nation Sport, the 36 year old Jamaican sprint sensation jetted out of the country in the early hours of Friday morning ‘to seek urgent specialized treatment in Milan, Italy having suffered a knee injury in training on Thursday that she tried to push but it got worse.’
The former Olympic champion was accompanied by her coach Reynaldo Walcott and physiotherapist Keneil Brown aboard EgyptAir to Cairo and then to Malpensa Airport in Italy.
Extending her appreciation to the Kenyan community and the event organizers, Fraser Pryce was hopeful that her recovery will be swift for a potential return saying; “Everything happens for a reason and I am trusting this season.”
Pryce was set to kickstart her season in Saturday afternoon’s 100 meters race where she was expected to face off USA’s and Kenya’s duo of Twanisha Terry, Teahna Daniels and Esther Mbagari and Monica Safania respectively.
“Sincere appreciation to the event Organizers and the Kenyan community. Thank you for your prayers and continued support,” her online post concluded.

Elsewhere, at the athletes presser, Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei confirmed that they were ‘considering talks’ that would lead up to US sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson moving down to run in the 100m event but emphasized that ‘she must be ready to do it and we can’t force her to that.’
