AFC Leopards captain elated after bagging monthly accolade

Nabwire beat Saad Musa and Lewis Bandi to win the award in a month that picked just one point all month.

AFC Leopards midfielder Marvin Nabwire has expressed his delight at being voted the fans’ October player of the month.

In a poll conducted by the club’s sponsors, the newly appointed skipper beat Lewis Bandai and Saad Musa to win the accolade that comes with a Ksh20,000 token courtesy of the club’s partners.

In an interview, the Kenya U23 midfielder spoke of his delight at being feted and thanked all those that voted in his favour in the poll.

“I am very delighted and feel honoured after winning this award, I want to thank everyone that voted for me. To be honest, I did not expect to win this award and I am grateful for those who made this possible,” he told Mozart Sport.

For Nabwire, winning the accolade is a recognition for the job that he has been doing for the club this campaign. He also says it is a challenge for him and other players to up their game which in turn will translate to good results for them.

“It always feels good to win an award because it means somebody or people believes that you are doing well. I am grateful to our fans and everyone else for voting for me. It is also a challenge for me and the other players to work harder for the betterment of the team,” he added.

Nabwire reserved some praise for his teammates and technical bench for the role they played in his triumph.

I also want to thank my teammates for making this possible. Football is a team sport and everyone in the starting XI and even on the bench play a role. I also thank the technical bench for the support and guidance, we will keep working as a team to make the team successful and the fans proud,” he concluded.

Ingwe will be hoping to turn their fortunes around when the league resumes. They have managed just four points in six games with the last four all ending in defeats. Next for them is a match against Kenya Police FC.
