Bayern really swiped right on this guy?! Such a weird match...

Apparently, Vincent Kompany is eager to sign Newcastle's Anthony Gordon, and - as things stand - the deal could be sealed in the next couple of days
When the first rumours emerged about ten days ago that one of Newcastle United's standout players, Anthony Gordon, could be on his way to Bayern Munich, many dismissed the idea outright. Why would Newcastle sell? Where would he even play? And would Bayern really spend that much money on someone who might not even be a regular?
That last question seemed particularly valid. After all, Bayern's attacking trio - Michael Olise, Harry Kane and Luis Diaz - have been virtually untouchable this season, combining for 93 goals and 55 assists. But it appears those in Munich see things differently. They have their own plan, and Gordon is part of it.
This is no longer idle speculation. Gordon has emerged as the Bavarians' top target for the upcoming transfer window, with multiple credible outlets and transfer insiders in both Germany and England backing the story.
"Vincent Kompany has given the green light for the transfer. The coach fully supports the arrival of the Englishman. Talks with the player's representatives are already underway, though not yet between the clubs," reported the ever-reliable Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany.
According to The Times, Newcastle would be willing to sell, but only if Bayern meet their £75 million asking price (around €86 million). Club officials at St James' Park are aware of Bayern's interest, even if formal club-to-club negotiations have yet to begin. There is also a growing belief that the player himself is open to the move.
Bayern are expected to test the waters with an opening bid of around £60 million - a figure Newcastle are almost certain to reject. Still, the German champions are currently considered frontrunners in the race, ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal. Gordon's representatives are set to meet with Bayern's sporting leadership in the near future.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Gordon has already given his agents the green light to begin negotiating personal terms. The English winger reportedly views a move to Bayern as a natural step forward in his career, partly inspired by the breakout season of Michael Olise in Munich, according to less reliable sources. Newcastle, meanwhile, are said to be aware of Gordon's intentions and have quietly begun looking for a potential replacement.
His absence from last weekend's match against Bournemouth has only added fuel to the fire.
"I will only count on players I'm sure are 100 per cent committed to this club and finishing the season strongly," said manager Eddie Howe on Friday, before leaving Gordon out of the squad entirely the following day.
When asked whether that decision was linked to a potential transfer, Howe played it down:
"No, he had a hip issue."
Gordon hasn't quite hit his top form this season, registering 17 goals and five assists, but that doesn't seem to concern Bayern. Nor does it deter Liverpool, who remain keen on bringing him to Anfield, where space is opening up for new wide attackers. It's worth noting that the Reds already attempted to sign Gordon in 2024, with Newcastle open to the deal, but the move collapsed when Liverpool refused to include Jarell Quansah in the package.
English reports now suggest Newcastle have shifted their transfer policy and are reluctant to sell top players to domestic rivals - a stance that could give Bayern a significant edge.
The Bavarians, after all, have been highly active in the English market in recent years. Since signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City in 2020, they have recruited a host of Premier League talent, including Sadio Mane, Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz. Not every move has been a success, of course (Joao Palhinha being a notable example), but Bayern's intent on this market remains clear.
