Boost for City Stars as key defender resumes training

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti can afford a smile ahead of the resumption of the league as his freekick specialist and left back Dennis Wanjala has returned to training.

Wanjala missed the previous two matches away to the relegation battling league debutants, Vihiga Bullets and Bandari thanks to illness but he had since been cleared to train.

Since ditching Nzoia Sugar for City Stars in September last year, Wanjala has been instrumental for Simba wa Nairobi as he has plugged in the gap left by Bolton Omwenga who crossed to Tanzanian Premier League side Kagera Sugar.

His absence in the last two matches saw Muyoti turn to Herit Mungai who had in the past depicted flashes of brilliance especially in swinging in crosses and in pouncing on balls in the final third.

"I was down with illness but I am happy to be back to the team. I know what is expected of me if I am to get back to the starting squad when the league resumes," he said.

The top flight clubs were granted a two-week long break that was meant to pave way for international football and will play the remaining matches starting next weekend.

Meanwhile, with City Stars having recorded three losses in the last five matches, Wanjala called on his teammates to make good use of the breather and plot on how they will catch up league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.

City Stars were going neck to neck with Homeboyz in the race to the premiership title but the three losses have seen them lose ground and fall eleven points behind the latter.

"Its time to reflect on what has not been working for us recently. We have to return stronger and with the resolve to fight for positive results in the remainder of the season," he said.
