Cape Verde completed one of the biggest stories of the FIFA World Cup after battling to a goalless draw against Saudi Arabia to book a historic place in the Round of 32.
The Blue Sharks finished second in Group H behind Spain after collecting three draws against Spain, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia.
Spain's victory over Uruguay in the other group match ensured Bubista's side progressed, while Saudi Arabia exited the tournament with just two points.
The final whistle sparked emotional scenes at Houston Stadium as Cape Verde's players and technical bench gathered around a mobile phone to follow the closing moments of Spain's win over Uruguay.
Once confirmation of qualification came through, celebrations erupted as the island nation secured the greatest achievement in its football history.
Cape Verde, which has become one of the tournament's surprise packages, will now face defending champions Argentina in Miami on 3 July.
Needing only a point, the Blue Sharks produced another disciplined display against a Saudi side that struggled to create meaningful opportunities despite requiring victory to stay alive.
The first half offered few clear-cut chances, although Cape Verde looked the more threatening side. Jamiro Monteiro came closest after bursting beyond Saud Abdulhamid before forcing Mohammed Al-Owais into a low save.
Saudi Arabia's best opening arrived in first-half stoppage time when Mohamed Kanno met a cross from Abdulelah Al-Amri. Still, veteran goalkeeper Vozinha comfortably dealt with the header, much to the delight of the large crowd that had embraced Cape Verde as the tournament's feel-good story.
The Blue Sharks continued to threaten after the restart. Wagner Pina picked out Monteiro with a cut-back inside the area, but the midfielder's effort lacked power and was easily gathered by Al-Owais.
Kevin Pina then curled a left-footed effort narrowly wide before the Saudi goalkeeper produced the save of the match moments later.
Nuno da Costa led a swift counterattack before releasing Laros Duarte, whose powerful strike was brilliantly denied by Al-Owais.
Cape Verde nearly snatched all three points in the closing minutes. Garry Rodrigues surged down the right flank before cutting the ball back to Da Costa, but with the goal at his mercy, the forward side-footed wide of the far post.
The missed opportunity mattered little as news filtered through that Spain had defeated Uruguay, sealing Cape Verde's place in the knockout rounds.
Having already frustrated European champions Spain and South American giants Uruguay, the Blue Sharks now head into a mouth-watering last-32 showdown against Lionel Messi's Argentina, with the fairytale showing no signs of ending.
