Former Liverpool skipper, currently at Ajax, saw his captain's armband being stripped away last night against Galatasaray as the news of his move to Monaco broke out
When Jordan Henderson decided to leave his home, Liverpool, and move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in 2023, we had an impression his career was going downhill. It was reasonable for the then-33-year-old to make a significant U-turn, allowing him to earn lots of money without too much stress.
However, after just 17 appearances for the Saudis, Hendo opted to return to Europe and joined Ajax Amsterdam. He was rewarded for that move with nothing less than a captain's armband.
Fast forward to last night, and Henderson was stripped of the captaincy when the Dutch side faced Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League. The reason? He's on the verge of another move, this time to Ligue 1 powerhouse AS Monaco.
As per reports, Henderson has given his green light to join Les Monegasques, as he'll stay in the same - red and white colours - but in a different league. Still, he needs to get the approval of his current club, which is challenging, especially after the latest punishment.
