The Italian tactician signed a contract extension until 2030

Back in April, everything was already clear — only the official confirmation was missing. Now even that is no longer an obstacle, as Carlo Ancelotti has signed a new contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation and will remain head coach of Brazil national football team until 2030, as officially announced on the federation’s website. That is not all: “Carletto” will reportedly earn 10 million euros per year, making him the highest-paid national team coach in Brazil’s history.

The fact that Brazil decided to extend Ancelotti’s contract even though he only arrived in May of last year shows the enormous confidence the country has in the former Real Madrid CF manager. They believe he can lead them to the promised land — a FIFA World Cup title, something the Brazilians have been waiting for since 2002.

A massive task lies ahead of Ancelotti. Brazilians are still living in the past and continue to see themselves as the main favorites for the upcoming World Cup, despite the fact that since that 2002 triumph they have never advanced beyond the quarterfinals. Aside from Vinícius Junior and Raphinha, there is hardly a player who can truly be described as world-class — or even close to it.

There is belief that Carlo’s pragmatism and his ability to manage big personalities can extract more from a national team that is clearly in decline. So far, Ancelotti has coached Brazil in ten matches, recording five wins, two draws, and three defeats. Still, all of those games have essentially served only as preparation for the one thing by which he will ultimately be judged — the June’s World Cup.
