The Uruguayan has undergone surgery on his knee

Tottenham Hotspur will have to make do without midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur at least until November. The trusty Uruguayan international faces long months of rehabilitation after undergoing surgery on a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Bentancur sustained the severe injury in his team's 4-1 loss at Leicester two weeks ago and had no option but to go "under the knife".

The former Juventus player has established himself as a key part of Antonio Conte's squad since the Italian went all in for the midfielder just over a year ago. This season, he's been a first-team regular in the Premier League. Although not considered a goalscoring midfielder, he managed to score six times in 26 appearances for the north London team.

Bentancur's absence has come at a terrible time because Yves Bissouma is also sidelined following surgery on a fractured ankle. Conte is unsure if the Malian international will be available again before the end of the season. As things stand, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr are currently Spurs' only available midfielders.
