Derby della Capitale, cup edition: Mou and Sarri promise more tense than goals

Roma and Lazio face off in the Coppa Italia quarter-final on Wednesday night

It's time for another Derby della Capitale, the battle between AS Roma and Lazio, only this time in the Coppa Italia. The Wednesday quarter-final tie at the Stadio Olimpico promises anything but plenty of goals since the last Serie A meeting between the two Rome-based teams ended in a goalless draw.

However, the fact that those two sides are led by Jose Mourinho and Maurizio Sarri tells a story of its own. Two charismatic, unique tacticians, occasionally bad-tempered, will be the biggest stars of another epic encounter in the Italian capital.

The last time Lazio and Roma battled it out in the Coppa Italia came in the 2016-17 season, where the Biancocelesti secured a 2-0 win in the first league but fell 3-2 in the second. The result was enough to take them to the final, where they lost to Juventus.

The two rivals famously played the most important Derby della Capitale in history in the Coppa Italia final back in the 2012-13 campaign, which saw Lazio lift the trophy.

Ciro Immobile is in doubt for Lazio, while Roma cannot count on Chris Smalling, Houssem Aouar, Tammy Abraham, Renato Sanches and Diego Llorente due to injuries.
