Do you see the window Diego's face covers? Well, the Italians have opened it for the first time since 1990

You simply don't touch Maradona in Naples. Unless Napoli wins the title or his and - believe it or not - their Argentina

It's no secret - Naples adores Diego Armando Maradona. He's their hero and will always be. They're more Maradonians than Italians.

"Mama, mama, mama...

Oh visto maradona,

enamorado estoy..."

And the entire city is still embellished with Diego's portraits, although it's been 31 years since he left Italy in anything but a peaceful way. Moreover, Maradona left us all in 2019, but despite all that, they still adore him, and he's "more alive" than ever.

Because of him, the Neapolitans are celebrating the Albiceleste World Cup title as if it was their own, albeit Italy didn't even qualify for the global showpiece.

For both superstition and almost religious worshipping of Maradona, the window with Diego's face in the city of Naples never opens. Only if and when Napoli win the Scudetto, and the last time it happened was when Diego was on board in 1990. Since then, it was shut until Sunday night, when they opened it for a reason - Diego's Argentina won the World, and the party kickstarted even in the streets of this town in South Italy.

After the celebration, they closed it again. And now are waiting for that other reason... hopefully we'll see 'opened Diego' again in May 2023.
