The Italian has been unveiled as Valencia's new head coach

Gennaro Gattuso is the latest appointment of Valencia's eccentric owner Peter Lim. Italian coach will try his luck with the sleeping giants of Spanish football after spending the last season jobless.

Gattuso isn't a popular appointment among the fans, but Lim doesn't care what the fans think. In fact, Valencia supporters are so annoyed with the man in charge of their club that they would probably treat every coach he appoints with contempt.

Former Italy national team midfielder Gattuso signed a two-year contract to replace Javier Bordalas, the coach who led Valencia to the Copa del Rey final this season. The noisy Italian last managed Napoli to the fifth place in Serie A. Should he finish fifth in La Liga next season, he would probably be lauded as a miracle-maker.

Gattuso arrives endorsed by Jorge Mendes, one of football's "super agents", who is Lim's friend. Gattuso's adventure in Florence ended almost before it began due to disagreements with the owners. It's not exactly a trait you should have as a Lim employee. Nevertheless, Gattuso makes the leap to La Liga. Let's see how long it will last.
