Left back Fred Nkata who is in the books of K'Ogalo will now be playing under his father, Paul Nkata who was recently appointed as the club's interim coach

With Gor Mahia trusting Paul Nkata with the interim role following the sacking of Mark Harrison, his son Fred Nkata is eager and looking forward to playing under him.

The Englishman was shown the door after the damaging 3-0 thumping at the hands of Posta Rangers on Wednesday which extended their winless streak to three games.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Fred revealed that working under his dad has not been a walk in the park but he has matured to handle the pressure with ease.

“Working with him (Paul Nkata) at first was challenging because I was still young and working with your dad has a lot of pressure, because people will always question your selection and blamed it on being favoured.

“I've now grown, I have no problem working with him, it will be easy because I know his philosophy, his style of play and I also know him as a person,” said Fred.

The family has previously worked together at Bandari and Tusker FC where they both won the double back in 2016 becoming the last Kenyan club to achieve the feat.

Fred was however coy on whether Paul would turn the fortunes of Gor Mahia with the club currently enduring financial constraints.

“I will not say he does not have what it takes to turn results around or he has it because people have their own luck but results have not been kind to us which is mainly due to financial struggles.

“The players are really trying but the truth is financial issues are affecting us with salaries not coming on time which makes it hard to motivate the players,” added Fred.
