In an announcement made via the club’s official Instagram page on Wednesday afternoon, the Mwanza-based outfit welcomed the experienced Kenyan coach with the message: “Karibu #Tiplanda Kocha Wa Mpira Francis Baraza.”
The 2025/26 NBC Premier League campaign will see Baraza take over the reins at Pamba Jiji on a one-year deal, bringing his wealth of experience and tactical acumen back to Tanzanian football.
Baraza’s appointment marks a fourth return to the Tanzanian Premier League, following previous spells at Biashara United, Kagera Sugar, and most recently, Dodoma Jiji FC.
A seasoned coach with a proven track record, Baraza first crossed into Tanzanian football in 2019 after leaving Chemelil Sugar.
At the time, Biashara United were languishing near the relegation zone, but under Baraza’s leadership, the team not only survived the drop but also achieved a commendable top-half finish.
In 2022, he took over at Kagera Sugar, steering them to an impressive sixth-place league finish. During his tenure, he famously masterminded a narrow but historic 1-0 victory over Tanzanian giants Simba SC—an achievement that earned him the NBC Premier League Coach of the Month award for January.
Baraza briefly returned to Kenya in 2023 to take charge of FKF Premier League reigning champions Kenya Police FC before signing with Dodoma Jiji in December 2023 on a two-year contract.
He served one season with the capital-based side before being appointed head coach of Kakamega Homeboyz, where he oversaw a turnaround that propelled the club to a top-three finish in the FKFPL 2024/25 season following a sluggish start.
His return to Tanzanian football comes at a crucial time for Pamba Jiji FC. The club, which finished 11th last season with 34 points, just 11 above the relegation zone and will be looking to leverage Baraza’s experience to push for a stronger league performance in the upcoming campaign.
As part of his backroom staff, Pamba Jiji have also brought in former Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeping coach and Baraza's most trusted lieutenant, John Waw.
Like Baraza, Waw is no stranger to Tanzanian football, having previously worked at Kagera Sugar. He rejoins Baraza on a one-year deal too and is expected to bolster the club's technical team, particularly in improving the team's defensive structure.
