Fury Ancelotti criticizes Endrick: "Theatre in football doesn't exist"

The Italian tactician had plenty to say about the young Brazilian’s performance following the victory over Getafe

Carlo Ancelotti didn’t mince words after a frustrating display from Endrick in Real Madrid’s narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe.

Making his first La Liga start, the 18-year-old forward tried to impress with a flashy chip after being sent through by Vinicius Jr.—a move that nearly ended in disaster. Getafe keeper David Soria got just enough on the ball, and Djene Dakonam was there to clear it off the line.

The decision didn’t sit well with Ancelotti. Clearly unimpressed by the youngster’s attempt at flair over function, he immediately pulled Endrick from the match and brought on Jude Bellingham. The Italian coach’s reaction on the sideline made his displeasure obvious.

Speaking to the media after the game, Ancelotti—who boasts five Champions League titles—didn’t hold back in his critique.

"Endrick had two good chances. For the first, I think he couldn't have done much better. The second might have been offside but he has to learn from that. Young players need to strike the ball properly, not this theatrical stuff. Theatre in football doesn't exist."

The Brazilian starlet arrived in Madrid amid much anticipation after a standout spell at Palmeiras and already has 14 caps for the national team. However, he's found it tough to break into the league lineup, with just 213 La Liga minutes under his belt so far—64 of them coming in this latest outing.

Despite limited league action, Endrick has made headlines in the Copa del Rey, where he became the first Real Madrid player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013 to score five goals in a single campaign.

Ancelotti has previously been candid about the teen’s road ahead, telling him bluntly that he’d need to endure time on the bench before earning a regular starting role.
