Gor Mahia custodian speaks after first Mashemeji Derby victory

Omondi seeks to keep twenty clean sheets this term

Football Kenya Federation Premier League giants Gor Mahia last weekend ensured status quo remained in the Mashemeji Derby, hammering bitter rivals AFC Leopards 2-0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Ever lethal Benson Omalla hit a brace to seal the three points for the twenty times FKF Premier League champions.

In an interview with Rix of Sports Eye, K'Ogalo new custodian Kevin Omondi, could not hide his delight after playing his first ever Mashemeji Derby.

"I feel good to have played in my first derby. I was a bit tensed been my first time and seeing the huge crowd at the stadium, but as the game progressed I was calm and settled into it, " said Omondi, former Sofapaka netminder.

Asked on what different he expected at Gor from his previous work stations the former Sony Sugar man said:

"Here at Gor I expected to meet the fans and I was impressed by how the team is run. I think Gor is run more professionally, than other teams and they do have high expectations that forces them to their limits to achieve set targets, " he added.

The youthful goalkeeper expressed the desire to gather more minutes at the top level of football in his career, noting that he would love to turn pro with Gor at the mantle.

The former Wazito man further alluded his ambitions of keeping twenty clean sheets in his first season with the Green army, and helping the team win their 21st FKF Premier League championship.

"I expect to keep twenty clean sheets this term and also help the team get crowned champions. I also want to be a champion and doing it with Gor Mahia will be amazing," he offered.

He concluded by urging the fans to continue being supportive and cheering on them as they push beyond their limits to put similes on their faces.
