The Dortmund striker is far from returning to the pitch

He should have experienced the most important moments of his career after moving to Borussia Dortmund, but instead - Sebastian Haller is facing a battle of his life.

As Borussia Dortmund announced on the club's website, it was established that Haller had a malignant testicular tumor and will have to undergo chemotherapy.

"Sebastian Haller will be out of Dortmund's team for months. Histological tests showed that he had a malignant testicular tumor. Haller will have to start chemotherapy treatments."

"Sebastian will have the best possible care. The chances of him recovering are very good. We wish him and his family a lot of strength and optimism and our thoughts are with them in these difficult times," said Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund's sporting director.

He asked the fans and the media for understanding, because the club will not go public with details about the player's health while his recovery is ongoing.

Haller was diagnosed with a tumor last week, at a training camp in Switzerland, after he complained of feeling unwell. Shortly after that, he was successfully operated on, but it was determined that he had to continue his chemotherapy treatment.

The French-born footballer moved from Ajax to Dortmund this summer in a transfer worth 31 million euros and was meant to fill the void in attack left by the departure of Erling Haaland to Manchester City.
