The millers have a perfect start to the season
Mara Sugar FC assistant coach Godfrey Niabei says he is intrigued by the tricky challenge that former Kenyan Premier Champions Mathare United presents as the two battle at the Utalii grounds on Saturday in a National Super League (NSL) fixture.
The millers head into the match on the back of an emphatic 5-0 win over strugglers Vihiga Bullets and boast of a perfect start to the season having won four and drawn one in their first five games of the season whereas Mathare enter the match from a maiden defeat of the campaign to Mombasa Stars and will be looking to bounce back from the embarrassing beating when they host the sugar men.
The National Super League (NSL) leaders will be looking to cement their position at the top of the table with a win against the former FKF Premier League outfit, a match the millers second in command suggests it presents a different kind of challenge to his players
"We take on Mathare an experienced side with top quality players which is a good challenge to my players who some of them look to some of their players, it is going to be a tough challenge but also a learning curve to them,” he suggested
The former Zoo Youth tactician added “We are keeping our focus and with the training the players have been subjected to this week are confident of disarming the slum boys in this crucial encounter," asserted Naibei.
Naibei a renowned defender during his playing time says they do not intend to give the Slum Boys any special attention as they lock horns and will go guns blazing for maximum points.
"We want to stick to our guns, stick to what we do so that we don't lose direction, and give special attention to any other team but ourselves. If need be, we can change the system depending on the opponent we face. Our main target remains to collect all the points from them.”
The free scoring Mara are top of the table on goal difference, tied on 13 points with Naivas FC who take on Gusii FC on Sunday at the Cardinal Otunga High School Grounds and a win for the 2020-2021 FKF Division One Zone B champions will further stretch their lead at the helm of the league.
The millers will however, miss the services of their top talisman Mohammed Baraza who is out with a knee injury and former captain Erick Ng’iela who has been sidelined for two months with a left hand fracture.
