Nanyendo says the defeat to Sofapaka is a low to his side ahead of the 30h June deadline when Kenya's CAF Champions League representative will be determined.

KCB and Harambee Stars defender Nahashon Alembi says the bankers cannot afford any further slip-ups ahead of the June 30 deadline when the team that will represent the country in the CAF Champions League will be determined.

On Saturday, the Bankers went down 1-0 to Sofapaka at Ruaraka.

It is a match they were fancied to win as Batoto ba Mungu had suffered back-to-back defeats while the Zedekiah Otieno led team was yet to taste defeat since the league resumed with two wins and a draw.

It was however a moment of magic from Lawrence Juma that made a difference as his first-half wonder volley condemned KCB to a defeat.

KCB remains top in the league with 36 points but they could slip up to third should Tusker and AFC Leopards win on Sunday against Vihiga United and Bidco United respectively.

FKF already confirmed that the team that will be top in the league by 30th June will represent the country in CAF Champions League and Alembi now says the defeat to Batoto ba Mungu was a wake-up call and insists that they cannot afford to slip up any further.

It was the wrong time to lose because June 30th is just four weeks ago. Slipping at this point means you lose some advantage and there is a lot of pressure from teams below us because we are the leaders. Teams want to leapfrog us and we cannot afford any further slip-ups between now and 30th June. We have to work to win our remaining matches and hopefully, by 30th we will be top in the league,” he told Mozzartsport.

On the defeat to Batoto ba Mungu, the towering defender says poor communication at the back and lack of composure up front led to them dropping three vital points against the less fancied Sofapaka.

“I can say that poor communication cost us for the goal they scored and I think it was just not our day because we played well but ended up losing. Our strikers were not very clinical today, we got around 3-4 chances but we did not utilize, Sofapaka got half a chance and they scored but that’s the nature of football such things happen sometimes,” he added.

KCB remains top of the log with 36 points after 18 rounds of league matches. AFC Leopards is second with 36 as well but with an inferior goal difference.

Tusker completes the top three with 35 points.
