Kibunguchy has been included in the roster for the 2022 season.

Kenyan defender Nabi Kibunguchy has inked a new deal with Major Soccer League (MLS) outfit Minnesota United after spending the season out on loan.

The 23-year-old’s contract elapsed on Tuesday 30 November with the club opting to renew his deal that was signed back in January after being drafted to the side.

Kibunguchy spent the season on loan to Sacramento FC which is Minnesota United’s feeder team and played an integral role in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship side.

The defender was selected 18th overall in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United after playing in college soccer for the University of California, Davis.

Also extending their contract for Minnesota United are midfielder Wil Trapp and defender Romain Metanire with the former being a nine-year MLS veteran and former U.S. men's national team member who signed before last season.

Minnesota however declined to extend the contracts of Jan Gregus and Brent Kallman, while two veterans head for free agency, Ozzie Alonso and Ethan Finlay.

The young players who have seen their contracts extended alongside Kibunguchy are D.J. Taylor, centre back Callum Montgomery, and 2021 first-round draft pick, winger Justin McMaster.
