Luke Shaw reveals that the players had a chat in St James' Park locker room with no coaching staff around

Luke Shaw has revealed that the Manchester United squad held a players-only meeting after their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday.

Shaw, who started at left-back for United, described the performance as "simply not good enough", with the 27-year-old defender revealing the squad meeting took place after the full-time whistle.

"The players had a chat in the changing room with no staff around.

"Ultimately, it is down to us as players on that pitch and as I said, it was nowhere near good enough.

"We had to speak out in front of each other and own up to it."

Man United, who are now fourth in the league, are winless in their last three Premier League games since winning the League Cup on February 26.

Shaw criticised his team's mentality during the match claiming that Newcastle "wanted it more."

"I feel like every time that I speak after games, I am always honest and I feel like as a team we have to be honest.

"I don't think Newcastle won the game on quality - I think they won it on passion, hunger, desire and attitude.

"They clearly had a higher motivation than we had and that can't be possible.

"I feel like I say always say the same things every time we lose. It was a massive game today and they wanted it more and at Manchester United, that cannot be possible."
