Marseille's downfall continues with another loss under Gattuso

Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 22.10.23. | 10:43

This time, Nice won the game with 10 man

Marseille have won only once in four games under new coach Gennaro Gattuso and are seven points behind the leaders. The Italian coach managed a draw on the debut in the Europa League, and after the defeat in the derby against Monaco and, another southern France derby defeat followed - against Nice - 0:1. It is already the third time this season that the players of the former European champions have left the field with their heads down, which has led them to a situation where they are already six points behind the defending champion Paris Saint-Germain and seven points behind the leader Nice.

During those 90 minutes, Gattuso's boys sent one shot into the frame of the goal, and that is what they should be worried about the most. Nice didn't make a name for themselves in this match either; they didn't have many more shots or showed any beauty, but since the team of young expert Francesco Farioli bases its style above all on strong and organized defence, that was not expected from the hosts.

This is the fourth match in a row in which Nice did not concede a goal and the third in which they won 1:0 in that period. This time, 22-year-old striker Evan Guessand decided 11 minutes before the end. Everything was preceded by an extraordinary throw-in by Jeremie Boga from the flank. Just a minute before Guessand was going to ‘open’ the Marseille net, Leonardo Balerdi earned a second yellow card and a dismissal. With an extra man on the field, Olympique still could not attack more seriously, which should be worrying for Gattuso and his assistants.
