Apart from Kamau, who has been consistent with registering his reservations about the pitch at Dandora, other coaches who have lamented about the state of the facility include former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards tacticians Sinisa Mihic and Tomas Trucha

Dandora Stadium has once again come under the spotlight, with Mathare United head coach John Kamau voicing his concerns over the safety of the playing surface, terming it unfit for FKF Premier League matches.

Despite securing a 1-0 victory over Mozzart Bet Cup champions Nairobi United in a match played on Thursday, 4 December at the venue, Kamau was not a pleased man.

This is after experienced midfielder Mohamed Kilume was stretchered off the pitch in the 37th minute with what looked like a thigh injury, courtesy of slipping on the pitch.

Speaking after the match, the former Harambee Stars assistant coach called on Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to ban top-tier matches from being played in the facility.

“I want to express my disappointment with this playing surface because I believe that if FKF has the intention of improving the game, then they must abandon this pitch.

It is not the first time that I have complained about it. Even last season, I complained despite us winning here. I have now lost two players to injury because of this surface. This surface is half-baked,” said Kamau.

Apart from Kamau, who has been consistent with registering his reservations about the pitch at Dandora, other coaches who have lamented about the state of the facility include former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards tacticians Sinisa Mihic and Tomas Trucha, respectively, as well as Kakamega Homeboyz assistant coach Paul Okatwa, among others.

Regarding the Thursday afternoon clash, Kamau was equally unimpressed with his forward line, which wasted numerous goal-scoring opportunities.

“I still believe our biggest area of weakness is striking. We have created several chances, but only buried one.

As a coach, the best I can do is to help the team get behind the defense, after that, it is about an individual's quality and instinct, which you either have or do not,” he stated.

Next up for the Slum Boys is a home fixture against Mara Sugar on Tuesday, 8 December at Kasarani Stadium.
