The Old Lady has exercised the option for the player for 18.5 million euros
Andrea Pirlo likes him, and he is not keen to play in Bundesliga 2 next season, so the agreement was a logical one: Juventus have officially bought Weston McKennie from Shalke.
The 22-year-old joined the Old Lady on loan from Schalke 04 last summer and so far has played in 31 matches, scoring 5 goals and adding 2 assists. And Juve coach liked what he saw.
“Juventus Football Club has exercised the option right for the definitive acquisition of the registration rights of the player Weston McKennie from FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 for a consideration of 18.5 million euros, payable in three years. The consideration may increase up to an additional 6.5 million on achieving, given conditions over the course of the duration of the contract. Juventus and the player have signed a contract of employment until 30 June 2025” said Juve in an official statement.

He is the youngest midfielder in Serie A who reached the number of four goals this season, and with those four, he already has the most impressive goal-scoring season of his career. Last season, he scored three goals as a Shalke player. Let's look at the overall statistics. He started his career in Schalke, played 91 matches, scoring five goals and seven assists. For the Bianconeri, 31 games, scoring the same number of goals and two assists. And another important fact: Whenever McKenna scored or assisted, Juventus always won. Why not sign him?

McKenna is United States national team player, who already has 21 appearances and six goals. McKennie's Juve form has also impressed National team coach Gregg Berhalter
"I know Weston very well. His style of play and his spirit are so important for a team. I was sure he would play an important role in a top team like Juve. He has room for improvement, he is still so young. Surely, he has been improving at Juventus. When you play every day with big champions like Cristiano Ronaldo, you can only improve if you really want it, and Weston wants to reach the top. I always watch Juve matches, and this role is perfect for him because of his intensity and his late runs into the box" said Berhalter in January.
