The Miami club wants to bring in two more superstars alongside Messi

Inter Miami are reportedly plotting a sensational move for Robert Lewandowski, aiming to pair the prolific Polish striker with Lionel Messi. The Herons have their sights set on defending their MLS Cup title in 2026 and are keen on adding more high-profile names to their roster.

Co-owner Sir David Beckham is actively scanning the market, with Lewandowski firmly on his radar. The veteran forward currently plays for La Liga powerhouse Barcelona, but his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026, giving him the freedom to talk to clubs outside Catalunya starting in January.

The potential signing could see Inter Miami secure yet another legendary No.9. Another former Barca star, Luis Suarez, is still undecided about whether he will continue next season. Messi, meanwhile, has committed to a fresh three-year deal that will keep him in South Florida through 2028. He has witnessed some familiar faces step away from the game, with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba deciding it was time to hang up their distinguished boots.

“They bowed out in style after helping the Herons to a historic MLS Cup final victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps.” That triumph handed Messi “trophy No.47” and further cemented his reputation as the most decorated player in football history.

Inter Miami are determined to surround the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner with sufficient quality to chase back-to-back MLS Cup triumphs next season. There is still “one Designated Player spot to be filled in South Florida, alongside Messi and his fellow World Cup winner Rodrigo De Paul.” According to Polish journalist Marek Jozwiak, Inter Miami have even begun house-hunting for Lewandowski, with optimism that the 37-year-old could move to the United States next summer—potentially after another World Cup.

Lewandowski appears ready for a new challenge after losing his starting spot at Barcelona to Ferran Torres this season. Despite scoring 42 goals last term, he is now expected to take on a more supporting role. This season, he has found the net eight times in 17 appearances while also registering an assist, demonstrating that he still possesses the hunger and physical qualities to trouble any defender.

Inter Miami are eager to harness that experience alongside Messi’s brilliance. The Herons are reportedly fully committed to landing Lewandowski, with Jozwiak’s report noting that they are awaiting a decision from the Poland international.

When asked about his expiring contract and the possibility of leaving Europe for either the United States or the Saudi Pro League, Lewandowski stated: “I don’t know if I will be in Barcelona or somewhere else. I will decide my future soon. The decision won’t depend only on sporting factors, but also on emotional ones.”
