The trend of footballers becoming club co-owners continues – Jude Bellingham has expanded his business ventures into cricket
Jude Bellingham has taken an unexpected step beyond football, entering the business world of professional sport. The Real Madrid and England star has become a minority investor in Birmingham Phoenix, a team competing in The Hundred. Ahead of the 2026 season, the 22-year-old midfielder secured a 1.2% stake in the Edgbaston-based franchise.
Still adored in the West Midlands after rising to prominence with Birmingham City, Bellingham is now returning to his roots in a different role. His involvement won’t just be financial—he is set to play a part in community and social initiatives, using his global influence to encourage greater participation in sport across the region.

Speaking about the decision, Bellingham emphasized his connection to the city, explaining that he felt a sense of responsibility to give something back. When the opportunity arose, he didn’t hesitate to get involved and expressed his excitement about joining the project.
His investment also brings him into a familiar circle. Warwickshire County Cricket Club remains the majority owner of Birmingham Phoenix, while a significant share belongs to Knighthead Capital Management—the same group behind Birmingham City. That link places Bellingham alongside high-profile names like NFL icon Tom Brady, who is also connected to the club’s ownership structure.
Looking back on his early days, Bellingham spoke warmly about Birmingham City’s role in shaping both his career and his character, describing it as the perfect environment to grow up in. He highlighted the strong sense of community in the city, where people look out for one another.

Interestingly, despite his football stardom, cricket has always held a special place in his life. Growing up in Stourbridge, he and his brother Jobe were fiercely competitive, often clashing over anything from board games to sports. Among those, cricket stood out.
In fact, Bellingham admits it’s his favorite sport to watch outside of football, particularly Test cricket, which he enjoys following throughout the day. He also pointed out the unique charm of the game, appreciating its traditions and the elegance of moments like the coin toss, with captains stepping out in blazers and caps.
