The 2025/26 FKF Premier League season delivered one of the most thrilling campaigns on both ends of the table, with coaches responsible for the relentless entertainment witnessed.

The season also saw a managerial carousel, with only six tacticians finishing the season with the team with which they kick-started the season.

Here are our writers' Coach of the Season picks:

Kevin Teya

Coach of the Season (Charles Akonnor)

Only six coaches who started the season actually saw it through to the end with their clubs, highlighting one of the most volatile campaigns in recent memory, with several teams even making multiple managerial changes.

Despite the instability, two of the surviving six coaches remained in the title race until the final weeks: Gor Mahia’s Charles Akonnor and AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani.

My pick for Coach of the Season is Akonnor, who successfully navigated a demanding campaign to guide his side to the league title. In doing so, he also made history as one of the few black coaches in recent times to deliver the league crown for Gor Mahia.

An honourable mention goes to APS Bomet’s Sammy 'Pamzo' Omolo, who steadied the team after taking over and successfully lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Sammy Gitahi

Coach of the Season (Charles Akonnor)

You have got to give flowers to the Ghanaian for delivering the championship back to Gor Mahia in what was just his first season on Kenyan soil.

So much was the pressure heaped on him that when he finally got the chance to meet the Green Army, his expectations were made clear during his unveiling.

As seen a year prior, bucking under the enormous weight of expectation was easy at the club, but Akonnor and his dedicated technical bench rode through the low points to go on an unstoppable run that finally won them the trophy.

All this was done with arch-rivals AFC Leopards breathing down their necks. Props to him.

Josh Angatia

Coach of the Season (Fred Ambani)

The last time AFC Leopards managed such a strong attempt at winning the league title was back in 2012 and 2013, when they finished third and second, respectively.

Ever since taking over from Tomas Trucha, coach Ambani has managed to awaken a sleeping giant. Ingwe were oh so close! Bar a disastrous end to the season.

Commentators stating 'Ingwe ya Papa Fred, ya Asali na Maziwa' was a testament to the intricate possession football his side showed.

Ambani's ability to give his attackers freedom to express themselves and also coach a mean defensive shape, capping it off with a dominant first-leg derby win, has seen the Leopards' faithful return in droves to the field.

His side might have lost the league to arch rivals Gor Mahia, but their performances week in week out place him as my coach of the season.

Brian Odhiambo

Coach of the Season (Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo)

My Coach of the Season award goes to Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo.

Apologies to Charles Akonnor, who did a tremendous job to guide Gor Mahia to the league title, but Pamzo gets my vote for the remarkable turnaround he engineered at APS Bomet.

When he took charge, many had already resigned the Black Berets to relegation.

However, Pamzo believed the team could survive and, together with his assistant Benedict Wanjala, inspired a revival that ultimately preserved their FKF Premier League status.

His influence was reflected in the results APS produced during the run-in.

Under his stewardship, the club registered crucial victories over Sofapaka, KCB, Mathare United, Bandari, AFC Leopards, Posta Rangers and Ulinzi Stars, steadily pulling themselves away from danger.

Beyond the results, Pamzo instilled discipline, belief and tactical organisation in the squad.

APS Bomet transformed from relegation candidates into one of the league's most resilient sides during the closing weeks of the season, completing one of the campaign's most impressive escape acts.
