The recently concluded 2025/26 FKF Premier League season saw teams reinforce their squads by roping in impressive signings, with the hope of dethroning Kenya Police FC from their perch.

Eventually, it was the smart piece of business from Gor Mahia in the January transfer window that landed them their record-extending 22nd league title after one of the most thrilling title races in recent history.

A number of signings this season caught the eye of our writers, who picked their signings of the season.

Kevin Teya

Yves Koutiama (Kenya Police FC)

Few mid-season arrivals had the impact that Yves Koutiama made after joining Kenya Police FC. The striker quickly transformed the club’s attack, scoring 10 league goals and playing a pivotal role in turning around what had been an inconsistent start to the campaign.

Koutiama brought much more than goals. His work rate, intelligent movement, and ability to find space in dangerous areas made him a constant threat to opposing defences. When chances came his way, he rarely wasted them, underlining his reputation as one of the league’s most clinical finishers.

The forward established himself as one of the FKF Premier League’s most lethal poachers, with many considering him the best out-and-out number nine in the competition.

Given the influence he has had in such a short period, it is hardly surprising that he is already attracting interest from elsewhere. For me, Koutiama is unquestionably the Signing of the Season.

Brian Ojok ( AFC Leopards)

Stepping up from Division One to one of the most high-pressure football institutions in the country is not for the faint-hearted, especially after AFC Leopards lost their MVP for the 2023/2024 season, Lewis Bandi, to arch-rivals Gor Mahia.

This left a bitter taste in the fans and club, but in came Brian Ojok Nyongesa, initially touted to be Bandi's understudy. The former Soy United man was quickly thrown into the deep end. His first match against Batoto ba Mungu saw him get exposed on the far post in the build-up to Sofapaka's goal.

From there, the only way was up. Nyongesa put up some incredible numbers, raking in 2,317 minutes. Starting in 25 encounters and coming on as a substitute in three matches.

Nyongesa ends the season as the highest passer at AFC Leopards with 1,180 passes. Showing how integral he was to coach Fred Ambani's set-up.

His one assist and 14 chances created emphasise this even more. Such a step up and putting in top displays week in week out proves his pedigree and why he is my signing of the season.

Sammy Gitahi

Frank Odhiambo (Gor Mahia)

I will have to tip my hat to the Gor Mahia administration for digging deep and unearthing their old gem from the fringes in Sweden. To know how impactful Odhiambo was, he took no time in bursting straight into the K'Ogalo starting eleven, playing a crucial role from the time of his signing in mid-January, till the end of the season - the time when big players are needed to step up.

When Gor Mahia lost the dependable Sylvester Owino for over one month in March, the Green Army could rest easy as Odhiambo was there to lead the pack, shutting up shop, and helping the side to an enormous run that saw them get over the line.

To cap it all, since his signing, Gor Mahia lost just two games; the last coming with the league won already. A true weapon, as per his coach, Charles Akonnor.

Brian Odhiambo

Brian Ojok (AFC Leopards)

My FKF Division One Zone B 2024/2025 MVP returns to the spotlight

Leaping Division One to one of the most demanding and high-pressure environments in Kenyan football is never an easy task.

AFC Leopards felt that pressure after losing their 2023/2024 MVP Lewis Bandi to arch-rivals Gor Mahia, a departure that sparked widespread debate.

In stepped Brian Ojok Nyongesa, the former Soy United man, who was quickly thrust into the spotlight and handed responsibility earlier than expected.

Despite the difficult start, Ojok’s rise into such a demanding role remains one of the most intriguing storylines of AFC Leopards’ season.
