Boniface Muchiri has opened up on the difficult time he faced after suffering a groin injury.

Tusker winger Boniface Muchiri has picked his teammate Jackson Macharia and his mother to thank for offering him a shoulder to lean on when he was nursing a nasty groin injury that threatened to curtail his growth.

The pacy winger suffered the injury while trying his luck with United States of America's fourth tier side Golden State Force last year and consequently had to return home under unclear circumstances to seek treatment.

Even though the Harambee Stars winger has recovered and returned to the Tusker squad, he is yet to hit his best form which won him the invitation to try in America.

On Friday, coach Robert Matano backed the former Sony Sugar player to rediscover his form after firing home the sole goal to help Tusker beat Ulinzi Stars and open a nine-point gap at the top of the log.

Muchiri revealed that Macharia was a good friend to him during the hard times while his mother's love was the best during the difficult times.

"Macharia is my best friend in the Tusker camp. The entire team was behind me when I was injured but the support I received from Macharia was immense. My mum is a special pillar in my career when it was under threat, her prayers and encouragement came in handy, " he revealed

Having broken the deadlock in the season, Muchiri is in the meanwhile targeting at least double digits.

"I have been working hard in training and I am glad I got off the blocks after a long wait. Should the coach consider me for regular playing time, then I feel I will be able to get at least ten goals from the remaining matches in the season," he added.

Muchiri joined Tusker in 2017 from Sony Sugar which currently plies its trade in the National Super League.
