Skipper says 'fight' is instilled in their spirit

Murang'a Seal center back Peter Mwaura has attributed the team's fairytale run in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League to teamwork and commitment by individual players.

Seal have defied the odds to rank third on the log with 21 points, a tally similar to that of second-placed Gor Mahia and one off Posta Rangers, who are at the top.

The club wasn't expected to take the competition by storm as they are doing at the moment, given the fact that it is their first season in the top flight.

However, Seal can't be ignored at the moment, as they have won six times, drawn three times, lost two duels, and on top of that, conceded a paltry five goals in eleven matches.

Mwaura, who doubles up as the club skipper, termed team spirit as the force behind their impressive run in the league when he was asked about the secret behind it.

"We live like a family, which makes it easier for the coach to get the best out of the team. We fight on the pitch as a unit and always strive to get results. The players are also committed to realizing the objectives of the club and theirs as well," said Mwaura.

Recently, the club's winger, Erick Balecho, became the first player at the club to receive a call-up to the national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Although he didn't make the traveling squad to West Africa, Mwaura said the call-up was a source of motivation for the players to work harder and get Harambee Stars caps.

Stars coach dropped Balecho, Gor left back Geoffrey Ochieng, and Kakamega Homeboyz forward Moses Shumah while naming the final squad to Gabon and Ivory Coast.

"As a team, we are proud of Balecho. His call-up definitely left most of us encouraged, for we have such dreams," added Mwaura.

Seal are set to host KCB on Sunday at St. Sebastian Park.
