Muyoti says Wanga will only retire if Homeboyz win the title this season

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti has urged captain Allan Wanga to rescind his retirement decision and continue playing for the Kakamega-based FKF Premier League outfit.

A week ago, the former Kenyan international announced that he would be bowing out at the end of the season so that he can focus on his job at the Kakamega County office where he is serving as a sports officer.

Wanga has been active since 2007 when he shot to prominence with Tusker FC as a little-known striker. He went on to play in Angola, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Sudan, and Tanzania in what has been an illustrious career for the 35-year old.

Muyoti however says Wanga will have to rescind the decision. He says that they made a gentle man’s agreement and that Wanga would only hang his boots once he leads the team to the FKF Premier League title.

“Before the season started, we had an agreement with Wanga that he will only retire after he has helped us win the league title. I was a bit surprised therefore by his announcement recently and so it is something I have not accepted. He knows what we talked about and I want him to keep his word,” Muyoti told the league’s official website.

Muyoti further added that he has not accepted the striker’s decision to call it quits and will only let him leave if he leads his team to this season’s title if indeed he wants to retire.

“Obviously, there was no agreement written down between us but we discussed it and he knows it. In my mind, I have not accepted that announcement. If we win the league this season, then I will allow him to go but until then, he is still part of us,” he added.
