No surprise in Milan: Inter smash 'Islanders'

Unlike the last week's duel against Parma, the Nerazzurri didn't allow another shock, easily brushing Cagliari aside - 3-1

Inter Milan will face Bayern in a good mood! After the vital victory over the Bavarians in the Champions League, the Nerazzurri today beat Cagliari at home 3-1, refusing to give Napoli a chance to catch up with them at the top of the Serie A table.

The 2-0 lead at the break this time wasn't fatal for Inter, as Marko Arnautovic and Lautaro Martinez's goals perfectly paved the way for another win, while Yann Bisseck's second-half effort quickly annulled Roberto Piccoli's goal of hope for Cagliari.

After last week's surprising 2-2 draw against Parma, Simone Inzaghi didn't want to risk anything - although his team will play their UCL return leg against Bayern Munich in only four days - opting for the pretty powerful lineup with Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Dimarco, and Lautaro Martinez.

That decision started paying off after only 13 minutes as Marko Arnautovic used Carlos Augusto's skilful assist to smash the ball under the crossbar and give Inter the lead. When Lautaro doubled the Nerazzurri's lead 13 minutes later, it was clear that Cagliari would return to Sardinia empty-handed.

Yet, Inter were 2-0 up at the break against Parma as well and that clash didn't end the way they wanted, so cautiousness was of the utmost importance.

When Cagliari scored over Roberto Piccoli three minutes after the break, all the Nerazzuri fans and players, as well as Inzaghi probably remembered the clash against Parma and their comeback from 0-2 to 2-2. However, only seven minutes later, Yann Bisseck netted after Dimarco's ideally taken corner kick, annulling the visitors' goal of hope.

Thanks to this triumph, Inter will be able to await the UCL return leg against Bayern full of confidence, while at the same time the Nerazzurri put pressure on Napoli, increasing their lead to six points. Now, Antonio Conte's team must respond and beat Empoli on Monday (21.45).
