Nobody can stop Iheanacho! The Nigerian scores again for the win
Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 26.04.21. | 23:40
The Foxes are now seven points clear of the fifth placed West Ham
14 out of 14 for Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian is currently unstoppable and Leicester is loving it. Since the start of March, Iheanacho even outscored Harry Kane, netting every 62 minutes on average to find the back of the net eight times, more than anyone else in the division. And tonight, he brought his team a victory after trailing 0-1 and secured a seven points gap between Leicester and the fifth placed West Ham. The Champions league is closer and closer.
It wasn’t one of those effective an clear victories for the Foxes. They really had to earn the win and work for it. Crystal Palace was a tough team to beat, they were equal for most parts of the match, and even scored a Leicester-like opening goal, but stopped from there.
Leicester’s first half is easily explained by the statistic: 6 shots on goal, only one on target. The Foxes had the initiative before and after the Palace goal, but actually had no clear chances. It was either Vardy shooting into the body of Palace defender, or Iheanacho missing the header or Soyuncu with the ball over the goal. Crystal Palace scored the oppening goal in a typical Leicester style: Tielemans lost the ball around middle of the park, Eze made a superb assist to Zaha who finished it calmly.
As soon as the second half started, Leicester equalized. Tielemans made an assist to Iheanacho who shook of Kouyate and saw Castange bursting into the penalty area. The Nigerian passed the ball to the Beligian, who punched a superb finish into the far top corner.
Palace had a great chance just five minutes later. Schmeichel was already beaten, but Johny Evans had a superb slide in the last second and prevented Benteke to bring advantage to Palace again. And after a long period of half-chances, Vardy had a nice opportunity in the 78th minute, after one-two combination between him and Iheanacho, but the Palace keeper forced him into the dead angle and the shot went near the goal post. But then the Nigerian managed to score (again) and secure a seven point difference between Foxes and West Ham in the fifth place. It was a great individual effort from Iheanacho who went into the box, turned inside from the right and blasted the ball into the net.
