Nzoia are third from bottom in the FKFPL log
Nzoia Sugar winger Victor Maliachi has challenged the team to double efforts and redeem themselves from the poor start in the 2022-2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.
The Bungoma-based club has won twice in the twelve matches played so far in the season to place third from bottom on the log with nine points.
The form heavily contrasts with that of the last campaign, where the club was firmly in contention for the league title but lost footing in the second leg, settling for a fourth-place finish.
Maliachi, who attributed their poor form to tough luck, said hard work and team spirit are enough to turn around the situation and especially to get out of the red zone.
"It's a shame that we are in the danger zone, but there is time to recover. We have to work harder, as fine margins have been denying us points. We have what it takes to make it to the top half of the log," said the winger.
Maliachi further asked the team to make Sudi Stadium a fortress, just like they did last season, when visiting teams struggled to mine points.
"We shouldn't be dropping points at home again. Home advantage is crucial in the top flight," he challenged.
Maliachi joined Nzoia before the start of the season from FKF Division One Zone B side Green Commandos, joining his elder brothers Kevin and Evans in the top flight.
Evans plays for Sofapaka as a left back, while Kevin, a versatile full back, ditched Nzoia for FC Talanta before the season kicked off.
Maliachi, who has managed a single start so far, is hoping to get more minutes and score goals for fun in the coming weeks.
"I am yearning for more playing time, particularly more starts. I normally work extra after the daily sessions with the club so as to be more fit and sharp," he disclosed.
