Ojienda downplays promotion talks

Ojienda remains coy over Shabana's promotion chances.

Shabana FC head coach Robert Ojienda says their promotion chances will be clearer after his team's next three league games.

The former Migori Youth coach has rebooted Shabana and they currently sit in the third position in the National Super League (NSL) . They are firmly in the race for promotion to the FKF Premier League at the end of the season.

Ojienda however says they cannot talk of promotion right now. He opines that things will be clearer after their next three matches against Kenya Police FC, Silbwet FC and Kibera Black Stars.

"Right now I cannot say that we will be promoted but I can't downplay the gains we have made. After the next three games, we will know where we stand in terms of readiness for promotion push but we keep dreaming," he told Mozzart Sport.

The gaffer notes that the team has made some positive strides under him but believes there's work still to be done.

"I cannot say that we are where we want to be but there's a lot of improvement, the players are slowly understanding what I want them to be and so far so good,".

"One of the things that I changed is the style of play. The team was playing a lot of long balls and when you do that you invite pressure from opponents and in turn you end up making mistakes which get punished. Right now we are passing and keeping the ball more. I love it when my players pass the ball around because it also minimizes on mistakes we make," he added.

He notes that having a young group of players had made instilling his philosophy easier.

"They are a young lot, very keen to learn and that has things easy for me, they can only get better," he concluded.
