Spalletti, Pochettino, Glasner, Amorim are also on the list...
He was strict, and uncompromising, but even Roman Abramovich during his nearly two-decade tenure at Stamford Bridge did not do what Todd Boehly managed to do in less than a year spent in West London. By deciding to fire Graham Potter - and only a month after he assured the public that he believed in him - the American businessman "beheaded" the second coach in the current season and went for a new "victim."
Virtually all the more reliable English media write that they have started auditioning for the third coach in the Boehly era at Stamford Bridge. Two days after they definitely realized that Potter is not exactly a wizard like his surname-sake Harry, the leaders of the London club started a mission to find the man to whom they will entrust the expensive project. German Sky reported on Sunday that Julian Nagelsmann is Chelsea's first pick, and the British Telegraph writes today that they have already contacted him from Bridge. And not only him, but also Luis Enrique, thus interrupting the vacations of two currently unemployed experts.
One would say that, taught by the experience of Chelsea's predecessors in the Boehly era, no one would even consider accepting the invitation. Again, knowing that this is an invitation from a club of such renown with the highest ambitions and practically unlimited financial resources, it should not be too surprising that both Nagelsmann and Enrique are interested in the idea of continuing their careers in the London club - the young German would prefer to take over the bench in the summer, according to the Telegraph, while the much more experienced Spaniard would be available immediately.
The Telegraph adds that the leaders of the two-time European champions will contact several other candidates in the next 48 hours, including Mauricio Pochettino (no club), Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt), Luciano Spalletti (Napoli) and Ruben Amorim (Sporting Lisbon), although the latter is according to reliable Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda, he is focused on the project in Sporting and believes that he will secure participation in the Champions League with the Lisbon club. Amorim himself recently pointed out that he has no intention of leaving Lisbon for now.
"I've seen many coaches leave for leagues where they're not happy. That's a very important factor. I'm not asking for anything, I appreciate what I have. I've had contacts with other clubs, they know that at Sporting, but I want to stay. If I have to I will leave, it will happen naturally. I will not be the one to open the door, because Sporting deserves respect. If I have to go, I will leave. I will tell the president. I want to fulfill my contract, I have very clear goals. Anyone who wants me will have to to pay the clause, because that's the way I do things", said the Portuguese manager.
There was also a rumor on the Island that Roberto De Zerbi, the current coach of Brighton, is also on Chelsea's list, but the Telegraph denies the mentioned information, pointing out that the club's management does not want a repeat of the Potter case, but plans to hire a more experienced coach, someone who had the opportunity to work in a top-tier European club.
