Patriotic or crazy? Lens ready to postpone crucial clash with PSG so Parisians would rest for Liverpool

Pierre Sage's side is Paris Saint-Germain's fiercest rival in the Ligue 1 title race, but it seems like in France, there are things with a higher priority

RC Lens may not be as immovable as first thought - and Paris Saint-Germain are watching closely.

After knocking out Chelsea to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, PSG have already benefited from a lighter schedule, with their clash against FC Nantes postponed. Now, attention turns to a far more delicate question: should their April meeting with Lens also be pushed back?

Luis Enrique's side faces a brutal European double-header against Liverpool. First in Paris on April 8, then at Anfield six days later. Sandwiched in between sits the Lens fixture, a potentially decisive domestic Ligue 1 clash against a side just one point behind (albeit with PSG holding a game in hand).

Lens boss Pierre Sage had initially dismissed the idea...

"It's too late," he said, insisting PSG didn't need any favours to compete.

Alas, the tone has softened in the meantime.

According to reports, Lens are now "not totally closed" to a postponement, provided it makes sporting sense for both sides. It's not a green light just yet, but it's no longer a firm no either.

For PSG, chasing European glory while protecting their domestic lead, even a small scheduling advantage could make a big difference.

And suddenly, this off-pitch decision might carry just as much weight as anything that happens on it.
