Musasia says he was on the verge of walking to the Posta's starting team
The presidential decree to have sporting activities halted as a way of curbing the spread of coronavirus was met with unbridled uproar from footballers who had not fully regained their fitness from the previous suspension.
Players have observed that the adjournment would water down their fitness levels, whittle down their earnings, and disrupt the rhythm their teams had gained in the various leagues.
For Posta Rangers midfielder Steiner Musasia, the break comes as a massive and unwelcome distraction in his quest to establish himself in the starting team as well as his dream to jostle for a place in the national team.
The youngster was plucked from National Super League(NSL) side Nairobi Stima in February but was yet to earn his maiden league start as he largely used a substitute before the announcement by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week.
The defensive midfielder who was part of the national U20, Rising Stars squad that reached the semifinals of the CECAFA Championships held in Arusha last year reckons that he was two matches away from his first league start.

“I was on the verge of forcing myself to the starting team before the worst happened again. I had already shed off the stage fright and was working up my way to the first team. It is unfortunate that the break drags me back to square one,” he regretted.
Musasia who joined Stima straight after the regional tournament noted that playing alongside the experienced Bernard Ondiek, another February acquisition from Gor Mahia in the midfield had helped him adapt and settle in the top flight with ease.
The 20- year old who joined Acakoro Academy while in class six said he found life in the top league rather difficult in the first weeks but the seasoned players held his hand.
“I had just lasted for about a month in the NSL when Posta came calling. There is a massive difference between the two leagues but support from the experienced players and the technical bench helped me settle quickly,” he added.
