Promising Zakayo named Tusker’s January Player Of The Month

Promising young winger Erick Zakayo has been named as the Tusker FC player of the month for January in a joint vote conducted by the team’s fans, coaches and fellow players.

According to information provided by the club, Zakayo was feted as the standout performer in January having had one assist to show for his performances which claimed the January award.

“I am pleased to have been given this award but it was a joint effort from the coaches and my fellow players. We have worked as a team and this award is for all of us. I am truly grateful to be chosen among very talented players and this will now motivate me to keep working hard,” Zakayo said.

To clinch the gong, Zakayo fended off challenge from skipper Humphrey Mieno, who has been sensational for the brewers, goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, defender Charles Momanyi and Deogratious Ojok who is the club’s top scorer with six goals so far.

In clinching the award, Zakayo becomes the first recipient of the club's player of the month award.

Tusker have had a difficult January as they have won two, drawn two and lost one match in the five games they have played. The team have however managed to retain their lead on top of the standings courtesy of a superior goal difference.

As they prepare to face off with Kenya Police FC on Saturday afternoon at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Zakayo has called on the team to improve on their finishing if they are to rediscover their mojo in the league.

“We have not been scoring at our normal rate. I can say that is why our January was difficult. Straight from here, that is what we need to improve on even in our coming match to regain our groove back,” he noted.
