Red-hot Talanta forward fights to overcome injury setback

Reading Time: 2min | Tue. 24.10.23. | 21:39

Erick Ombija hurt his ankle in Talanta's dramatic 3-3 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz earlier this month

FC Talanta forward Erick Ombija is a disappointed man after picking up an injury at a time when he was hitting his best form after a lengthy stay on the sidelines.

Ombija became the first player to score a hat-trick this season after finding the back of the net three times in their 3-3 draw against FC Talanta earlier in the month at the Bukhungu Stadium.

The game didn’t have the best ending for Ombija, as he picked up a knock on his ankle, which was ruled out for the rest of the month.

The forward missed when Talanta ended Posta Rangers’ unbeaten start in the season last weekend following the 3-1 win over the mailmen at the Ruaraka Grounds.

The striker says he will not be available when Talanta takes on Kenya Police this weekend at the Kenya Police Sacco Stadium in South C, Nairobi.

“I am disappointed to have picked up an injury at a time when I was getting my confidence back. I was enjoying football and scoring, but I hurt my ankle in our game against Homeboyz,” he said.

What pains Ombija is the fact that he missed the whole of last season due to a knee injury that saw him go under the knife.

Before hurting his ankle in the game against Homeboyz, Ombija had scored four league games in six matches, becoming the second-best scorer in the competition after Benson Omala of Gor Mahia.

The former Nairobi City Stars player believes that he will come back stronger after the rehabilitation process, which is expected to last for an extra week.

“I know I will pick up where I left off once I shake off the injury,” added the former Mombasa Stars forward.

Ombija joined Talanta before the season began, marking his return to the top flight after a season out.

He left the City Stars last year following the expiration of his two-year deal.
