Ruud's way of saying goodbye: Bruno, Diallo and Garnacho kill Foxes on his farewell

Van Nistelrooy's last match as Manchester United interim manager ends in the Red Devil's 3-0 home triumph over Leicester City

It was short but sweet.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's short tenure in Manchester United's dugout ended successfully on Sunday night as his side defeated Leicester City 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Interestingly, the same opponent and the same venue saw Van Nistelrooy's debut as the interim manager on October 30 in the League Cup (5-2). In the meantime, his team drew against Chelsea (1-1) in the Premier League and defeated PAOK (2-0) in the Europa League.

Van Nistelrooy's permanent successor, Ruben Amorim, will be happy to see his compatriot, Bruno Fernandes, in excellent form. The Portuguese midfielder led his side to a deserved win against the 2016 EPL winner, who was too shy in the attack due to Jamie Vardy's absence due to a back injury.

In his 250th appearance for the Red Devils, Bruno Fernandes shined with an early opener, as Amad Diallo put the ball on the plate for him with a silky touch, and the former fired it low, giving the Foxes' keeper no chance of stopping that.

That was Fernandes' 83rd goal for Manchester United, and the number could have easily raised to 84 even before the break, but the United's captain missed his intended header in the 38th minute, but it deflected off Kristiansen and flew in.

The visitors were given a chance to bounce back through Ndidi on the other end, but the Nigerian was just sluggish with his finishing and Onana had no issue with denying his effort.

Onana's counterpart Hermansen, however, put all of his shot-stopping skills on the line to prevent Diallo from putting the cherry on top of that wonderful performance.

Unlike the first half, the second provided us with not much of an action on both ends of the pitch. Garnacho struck a belter to make it 3-0 near the end, as the packed Theatre of Dreams chanted Ruud van Nistelrooy's name, saying thanks for his short but highly successful stint.
