Sanjin tips City Stars to be FKF Cup surprise package

Nairobi City Stars head coach Sanjin Alagić believes his side could be the surprise package of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup this season.

City Stars booked their place in the Round of 16 after a hard-fought 0-1 win over National Super League (NSL) side Fortune Sacco at the Kianyaga Grounds.

Simba wa Nairobi have their work cut out in the Round of 16 as they face a resurgent Ulinzi Stars who are on a winning streak since the resumption of football in the country.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Alagić who is on a run of three consecutive wins in all competitions admitted they are in good form and could be the dark horse of the cup competition. 

“We'll go step by step, match by match. Cup is a competition where you don't have a second chance to make things right. You must be perfect in that 90 minutes to succeed. I believe we can go far and pull a surprise in the competition,” 

“Yes we are in good form, we play good football so the result is that the team is full of self-confidence,” said Sanjin. 

City Stars will hope to continue their trophy hunt after bagging the National Super League (NSL) last season and will be chasing their maiden FKF Cup.

The Bosnian head coach acknowledged the tough task at hand in eliminating two-time finalists Ulinzi Stars to qualify for the quarter-finals. 

“I'm confident we will be even better in the next fixtures and continue with good performance. In front of us is a very tough match against a team which beat Sofapaka away 2 0, they have conceded only 10 goals in 18 matches in the league. They are tactically a very disciplined team,”

“I'm sure my boys will show the right attitude and determination, which will be necessary to win this game. We are ready to show one more good performance and qualify for the quarter-final,” added the coach.
