While Bayer's winger thought his move to Riyadh was sealed, Al-Nassr had been sitting on two chairs and negotiating with Aston Villa's Jhon Duran, whose deal with the Saudis closed the door for Boniface
Yesterday, Victor Boniface was probably getting ready for his life-changing move to the Saudi Al-Nassr. Life-changing for several reasons, as he'd earn a vast amount of money, which would probably provide for his great-grandchildren, and get an opportunity to play alongside one of the best African players, Sadio Mane, and one of the greatest ever, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Today, the transfer fell through! The culprit: Jhon Duran. Jokes aside, Al-Nassr had been sitting on two chairs, negotiating simultaneously with the Nigerian and the Colombian. They initially came to terms with Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen, agreeing to pay €60 million for him.
Victor Boniface's move to Al Nassr has been called off. Al Nassr will now sign Duran from Villa for €77 million on a long-term contract.

However, once Duran's deal was confirmed - for which the Saudis splashed out €17 million more - they informed the Bundesliga side and Boniface that he wouldn't be joining the Riyadh side.
This way of negotiating is everything but strange for the Saudis, as Al-Ahli had directed a similar scenario in the case of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, when they had at first agreed with the Nigerian, only to suddenly give up on the forward after the Englishman accepted their offer.
