Simeone's son scored after only three minutes and Atletico finished the job in the first half

Considering the amount of money put into the June transfer window, Atletico Madrid is not having a good season.

Diego Simeone‘s team had only one defeat so far but allowed four draws, which puts them in fourth place, just below Villareal and far away from the leading Real Madrid.

What is even worse, ahead of the game against Real Betis, they did not have an away win (three draws, one defeat), while the home team had a good record at their stadium against Atletico (one win, one draw without a goal conceded).

But all that changed last night, with Simeone getting help from his family: Betis – Atletico Madrid 0-2.

One of Simeone‘s three sons, who are all professional footballers, gave Atletico an early lead, which was confirmed at the end of the first half.

Giuliano Simeone‘s precise shot after only three minutes shook Betis, who needed time to recoup, but African gem Abdessamad Ezzalzouli was prevented from scoring twice by excellent Atletico‘s keeper Oblak.

In the second half, Simeone tightened up the defense and managed to secure the score, without making a single shot on target. Mission accomplished.

After that shocking goal, Betis tried to create some chances and control possession, but the visitors used the counterattacks to create more opportunities.

One such change happened in the 14th minute, when Baena passed the ball to Nico Gonzalez, who took a shot to the far post, but Pau Lopez managed to tip it into the corner.

Finally, after half an hour, the home team forced Jan Oblak into a fantastic save.

Former Barcelona talent Abdessamad Ezzalzouli took a powerful shot, but the Atletico keeper prevented the Moroccan midfielder from scoring.

Until the very end of the first half, both teams struggled to create any chances, and then a controversial situation happened.

Betis was attacking, and Natan was brought down by Atletico‘s player.

The home team footballers appealed for a penalty, but the referee not only denied it, but the visitors managed to score from the counterattack which followed immediately, which only fueled the home crowd even more.

VAR did not react as they agreed with the referee that the contact was not too strong for a penalty.

Betis really pushed hard in the second half to at least score one goal, but Jan Oblak was excellent.

He had a bit of luck as well since the crossbar saved his goal after a terrific shot by Ezzalzouli (again) in the 58th minute.

But the second chance from Betis was pure Oblak brilliance. Amrabat's through ball went to Lo Celso, who was almost one-on-one with Oblak, but his shot was blocked by the Slovenian goalkeeper, and that was the last chance of the game.
