The Barcelona starlet is racing against time after suffering a hamstring injury
Lamine Yamal is expected to miss the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a hamstring injury that continues to delay his recovery, dealing an early blow to Spain ahead of the tournament.
According to sources close to the situation, the 18-year-old is almost certain to miss Spain's opening group-stage clash against Cape Verde on June 15 and remains a serious doubt for the second fixture against Saudi Arabia six days later.

The injury was sustained during Barcelona's La Liga victory over Celta Vigo last month - a setback that prematurely ended another extraordinary season for one of world football's brightest young stars.
Spain's federation has reportedly been working closely with Barcelona throughout the recovery process, with medical staff regularly travelling to Catalonia to monitor Yamal's condition and coordinate a cautious rehabilitation plan designed to avoid any long-term risk.
The teenager had been widely tipped to become one of the faces of this World Cup after another sensational campaign at club level. In his third full season with Barcelona's senior side, Yamal registered 24 goals and 16 assists in 45 appearances while helping the club defend its league title despite battling fitness problems for much of the year.
His influence on the international stage has been equally remarkable. Since debuting for Spain at just 16 years old, Yamal has already scored six goals in 25 appearances and played a major role in the country's triumph at the UEFA Euro 2024.
Spain still hope the winger can recover in time to feature later in the group stage, with their final match against Uruguay scheduled for June 26. Before the tournament begins, Luis de la Fuente's side will also face Iraq and Peru in two warm-up friendlies.
For now, however, Spain may have to begin their World Cup journey without the teenager many expected to light up the tournament from day one.
