Too much competition in City pushed Laporte towards Ronaldo

The Citizens have accepted Al Nassr's offer, now it's up to the player

Al Hilal has made a powerful team, they are only waiting for the signature of Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrović, but Al Nassr is also powerful. As soon as they have Cristiano Ronaldo, they are automatically a candidate for the championship title. But, they didn’t let the Portuguese be ’alone’; they decided to add some serious firepower this August, mainly in the form or Sadio Mane. But the back line needs some serious reinforcement too, and there is every chance that another top player will arrive.

Aymeric Laporte, Manchester City’s defender, is on the verge of moving to Saudi Arabia. The deal was first reported by David Ornstein from Athletic, who confirmed that Manchester City had accepted an offer for the 29-year-old stopper. The financial details are not yet known, but it is believed that the European champion is satisfied with the money and that it will not be a problem for the former member of Athletic Bilbao to change the club. After all, Pep Guardiola is among those managers who openly admitted (several times) that he won’t keep players who are hot happy in the team. And Laporte doesn’t seem happy at the moment, and the reason is simple – too much competition.

The defender lost his position as the starter last season, when he played only 12 Premier League games, while it is estimated that in the upcoming season, he will be on the pitch even less.  Manchester City paid 90,000,000 euros for the transfer of Joško Guardiol from Leipzig, and for that kind of money, the Croat will be given every possible opportunity to show himself and to make it to the first 11. When you add to that the statuses of Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji, and even John Stones (although the Englishman is used more and more in the midfield), it’s easy to imagine that Laporte realized that this fierce competition is not suiting him.

The offer is such that he is likely to accept it, although Ornstein leaves it up to the player himself to decide whether he wants to go the Riyadh route. If he decides to take that step, he will be the fifth addition to the team whose coach is Portuguese Luis Castro. Sadio Mane from Bayern, Seko Fofana from Lens, Marcelo Brozović from Inter, and Alex Telles from Manchester United are also there, not to mention Cristiano Ronaldo...
