UCL: Calamitous Arsenal crumble in final seconds at Porto

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 22.02.24. | 01:12

The Gunners concede in the final minute of the stoppage time. It is the first time they didn't have a single shot on target in the Champions League after 2011

Arsenal lost to Porto 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday night, but more than Galeno's late stunner, it's the Gunners' offensive flaws that should worry Mikel Arteta and the Londoners' fanbase.

For only the second time on record (since 2003-04), Arsenal did not have a shot on target in a UCL game, previously failing in such a way at Barcelona in the last-16 in March 2011.

Arteta's side dominated possession but failed to have a single shot on target, with Saliba and Havertz heading wide from corners.

Unlike them, Galeno took a few touches to set himself before curling a superb finish into the net past David Raya. The very same player should have put them in front even before the break, but Galeno hit a shot off the post and somehow put the rebound wide.

The second leg will take place at Emirates Stadium on 12 March, when Arsenal will aim to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009-10.
