It has happened before, and unfortunately, it will happen again — players being attacked, threatened, and even blackmailed for money. There have been cases where they were ambushed and robbed, or had their homes broken into. However, the story of Destiny Udogie is a bit different. The Tottenham defender wasn’t targeted by burglars, but by his own agent?! The Italian international of Nigerian decent reportedly had a confrontation with his representative. He was threatened with a gun and became the target of an attack on September 6, which took place in London.

During the incident, two people threatened him. Fortunately, no one was injured, and an investigation is ongoing. The agent was arrested two days later on suspicion of possessing a firearm, extortion, and driving without a license As the news came to light, Tottenham issued a statement:
“We have been providing support to Destiny and his family since the incident occurred and will continue to do so. As this is a legal matter, we are unable to comment further,” said the London club.
The statement from the Metropolitan Police confirms they were called at 23.14 on Saturday September 6 to reports “a man in his 20s had been threatened with a firearm. Another man in his 20s had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual. A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence. He has been bailed while enquiries continue”. This wasn’t the only problem Destiny Udogie has faced recently. He’s also been struggling with a knee injury, which caused him to miss several matches before returning to the starting lineup in the game against Copenhagen.
